Auto Motor Sport 2018 Summer Tyre recomendations
The magazine Auto Motor Sport (a leading German automobile magazine) has conducted its annual Summer Tyres Test on a selection of 225/45/R17 tyres from 11 different manufacturers using an Audi A3 as their test car.
In research conducted by the magazine, it has been proven recently that 17” tyres should replace the traditional 16” used on compact cars in favour of fuel economy. However this doesn’t come as a surprise as the standard tyre of choice in Europe has been slowing rising in size since the 1980’s where it was only a mere 13”.
After a gruelling set of wet and dry track testing the 11 contenders were scored on their performances and ranked into a league table. To ensure the most accurate results tests were conducted multiple times.
The Results
Michelin stole first place with their Pilot Sport 4 tyres taking the top spot on both wet and dry braking as well as wet handling. They were closely followed by the Falken FK510 scoring consistently within the top 6 on all trials. Continental Premium Contact 6 drew with Falken in terms of scoring for 2nd place.
