The 2019 ADAC TOTAL 24hr Race presented many challenges for the Falken Motorsport Team. In the early hours of Saturday evening, Falken’s Porsche 911 GT3 R damaged a rear tyre on some debris which all-but-ended any chance of a podium finish.
However, there was some good news for the team as the BMW M6 GT3 enjoyed a solid race and finished 6th, the best placed BMW in the race.

This was the 47th ADAC TOTAL 24hr race at the Nürburgring and it certainly didn’t disappoint as it presented one of the most spectacular races in the history of the event. Falken marked the occasion with their 20th appearance and the event was well-celebrated by over 400 tyre dealers and aoround 50 journalists, in front of 230,000 fans.

Falken concentrated on a balanced race setup in qualifying, deciding against any risky, record laps. Klaus Bachler, Jörg Bergmeister, Martin Ragginger and Dirk Werner managed a 8:16.71 lap time to start in 18th position in the Porsche 911 GT3 R. Peter Dumbreck, Stef Dusseldorp, Alexandre Imperatori and Jens Klingmann completed the 25.378 kilometre-long circuit in 8:23.13 and started in 31st position in the BMW M6 GT3.

Five hours into the race, debris on the track caused a defect in the Porsche’s rear wheel which required an extended repair break, knocking the 911 back from tenth to sixtieth position. However, the Porsche quartet stunned onlookers with a methodical race and battled to catch up and force their way into the Top 15. The tremendous battling was in vain as a spin shortly before the end of the race forced another unscheduled pit stop, which resulted in the Porsche finishing in 21st position.

The BMW M6 GT3 ploughed its way through the field quickly and assumed the role of BMW spearhead. The experienced Falken drivers also demonstrated their immense skills, bringing the car safely through a night that was characterised by numerous incidents and yellow phases. Once again, the Falken tyres proved themselves to be the key to success, enabling fast and constant lap times.

At the end of the 24-hour race and a total 3,934 kilometres’ driving distance, the M6 GT3 BMW passed the well-earned chequered flag in 6th position.

The Falken race team will now be taking a summer break. The next race will be the fifth run of the VLN Endurance Championship, the 6 Hour ADAC Ruhr Cup Race at the Nürburgring on 03 August 2019.
