Micheldever going the extra mile for Macmillan

Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services – Team Protyre retail assistant Victoria Weston donned her best running gear last weekend for the renowned charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Victoria hiked 22 miles from Weymouth to Corfe Castle on Saturday completing it in just under 8 hours. She has single handily raised over £400 with donations still coming in.

We asked Victoria to tell us her story and why she chose Macmillan:

‘I support Macmillan as sadly my sister lost her husband Jason, a few years ago to cancer and Macmillan were really good. They helped the family at a very difficult time. I have friends who have beaten the disease and carried on with life, friends who are fighting it currently including two of my Clay Shooting Coaches and also friends and family who have lost the fight. I think everyone knows someone, who has been affected by this. I supported Macmillan a couple of years ago and ran a coffee morning and raised a couple of hundred pounds for them. They were so grateful we had supported them and I thought one day I would do it again.

To be honest, when I registered I just thought it would be a very long hard walk. I soon realised on the day that it was definitely a hike not a walk.

I hiked with my friend Wendy who runs my local Slimming world group. I met Wendy a while ago when I joined Slimming world and decided if I lost enough weight I wanted to do something physical to raise money for Macmillan and really push myself.

I lost weight, bought a second-hand Mountain bike to train on and did a lot more walking. Even wearing weights on my legs to strengthen my leg muscles. Although being diagnosed with a recent foot problem made training a bit tricky at times, it made me more determined to do it and succeed.

I was very tired, I got to lunchtime and was so worried I was going to have to pull out. Mini buses had been going back and forwards taking people back to the start, but I gave myself a bit of a talking to and just thought about all the people I know who have been/are affected by this, and that kept me going. They cannot do it so I am going to do it. I must say having Wendy to walk with and the support of other walkers and locals on the day was great and did keep me going.

When I finished I felt extremely emotional, chuffed, elated, proud and glad it was over. I still cannot believe I did it, apart from the aches and pains, bruised toes and swollen feet which give it away!’

Well done Victoria, the Protyre team are proud of you!
