Exchanging fitting for flipping
By Gareth Vrac
Last week pancake mania took off at Elmbridge Tyres - Team Protyre as they took part in the annual Pancake Run.
Originally scheduled to take place in the Delph, the rain brought the pancake races indoors to the Market Hall car park in nearby Midland Road.
Local business, schools and even local mascots all took part in separate heats for a chance to bag themselves a prize.
Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, Councillor Michael Stanton, was on hand to present awards to the winners.
Councillor Stanton said ‘The races continue to be an event for everyone to enjoy, which [bring] people together. It's great to see so many businesses and companies and people from the area getting involved."
Elmbridge Tyres - Team Protyre came in 16th place, but are not deterred and already preparing for next year. Lots of the staff took part, even if a tad hesitantly.
Centre manager Nick Owen said “Both Joe and Jack (tyre fitters) were worried about their street cred, but once it started they enjoyed it. Oddly no one thought to take a picture of me strutting my stuff around the pancake arena!”
The importance of fire safety
Staffordshire fire urged people celebrating Pancake Day to be careful in the kitchen, with 60% of fires caused be accidental blazes at home.
Paul Shaw, of Central Prevent and Protect, said: "Whether you're cooking pancakes with the kids, or preparing a feast for Chinese New Year, make sure you look while you cook.
