About Bridgestone Tyres

A brief history

The Bridgestone Tire Co. Ltd. was established in 1931. The name ‘Bridgestone’ is the English translation of founder, Shojiro Ishibashi’s surname. Naming his company in such a way was in anticipation of the future potential of passenger cars and the international development of the business.

In line with the growth of the Japanese motor industry, The Bridgestone Group expanded its business to become Japan's largest tyre manufacturer and its expansion continued overseas. In 1988, the company acquired The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, a well-respected global corporation.
