This Saturday (19th September) sees the return of Goodyear to 24 hours of Le Mans – the pinnacle of endurance racing – as well as the return of the Goodyear Blimp to a European race event.

With an impressive 14 victories at Le Mans during their proven history in motorsport, this year’s 24-hour event will be Goodyear’s first since its return to international motorsport.

When explaining the decision to get back on the racing track, Ben Crawley, the Motorsport Director at Goodyear, said, “The nature of the races – varying from four hours to 24 hours – means tyre choice and strategy are critical.

“It provides a motivating challenge for our technology team in our European innovation centres ahead of exploring other racing opportunities for the brand.

“The recent launch of Goodyear’s Eagle F1 SuperSport range and relaunch into motorsport shows how the brand is applying itself to a broader range of initiatives within the ultra-high-performance automotive sector.”

During the Le Mans race, one set of tyres will race approximately 6,000km (approximately 3,728.23 miles) – five times longer than an F1 race. At Goodyear, they see endurance racing as highly valuable in developing leading tyre technologies. The interaction between Goodyear engineers, team engineers, and drivers is crucial for this.

The Eagle F1 SuperSport range is closely related to the tyres racing at Le Mans and the Nürburgring, and Goodyear’s new EfficientGrip Performance 2 tyre channels the spirit of endurance racing by providing motorists with an estimated 50% higher mileage than its predecessor and 20% higher mileage than its closest tested competitor.

Expected to be watched by over 26million people across 54 countries, the event is available on the Eurosport tv channel, or via the Eurosport Player.
