Four for Protyre at the Garage Star Awards

Nov

Two Protyre garages have been named as regional winners at the inaugural Motor Ombudsman Garage Star Awards, with two more awarded the Highly Commended certificates for their regions.

Designed to celebrate and recognise the achievements of individuals, teams, and Motor Ombudsman-accredited businesses that have gone the extra mile for their customers over the last 12 months, the awards were broken down into 8 regions; East, Midlands, North, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South, Wales, West.

From over 800 consumer nominations, 24 garages were shortlisted, with three awards per region – one regional winner and two Highly Commended certificates. Across the Protyre estate, 99 nominations were received, with 68 of our garages receiving at least one nomination and 4 making it into the final 24. The regional winners were announced on Tuesday 24th November and the Team Protyre winners are:

The shortlist was created based upon examples and accounts given in the nominations and how well certain criteria had been met, such as to what extent the individual, team, or business had gone beyond the call of duty. It was then down to a panel of judges to decide upon the overall winners of each region.

The 2020 Garage Star Awards judging panel was made up of:

  • Bill Fennell – Chief Ombudsman and Managing Director at The Motor Ombudsman

  • Louise Savage – ADR Executive & Auditor at the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI)

  • Sue Steward – Head of Client and Commissioning at the CTSI

  • Stuart Woolley – Commercial Manager at Garage Wire

The panel of four judges praised Cambridge Performance Tyres for their personal approach and for making the customer who submitted the nomination feel valued, particularly after having been undermined by other garages in the past. The business was also recognised for going out of their way on more than one occasion to accommodate the consumer’s vehicle during peak periods for the business, and for completing some repairs free of charge.

Chemix Autocentre (Halesowen) was selected for the Midlands regional trophy in recognition of the longevity of their relationship with the nominating customer, which has spanned more than 25 years, as well as the consistent delivery of exceptional service by the garage throughout this period.

Also making on to the shortlist, and receiving awards for being Highly Commended garages, are Protyre Bristol in the West region and Wheels & Tyres Direct - Team Protyre (Beccles) in the East region.

When speaking about Protyre’s success at the awards, Bill Fennell said:

“We would like to congratulate Cambridge Performance Tyres and Chemix Autocentre on their fantastic achievement. Our very first awards were a closely fought contest, but these two garages clearly stood out from the other shortlisted entries that were put forward to win the regional trophies for the East of England and the Midlands. Their commitment to going above and beyond for their customers really shone through in the nominations that were submitted and were therefore deemed worthy winners by all judges on the panel.”

A massive congratulations to the regional winners Cambridge and Halesowen, the Highly Commended Bristol and Beccles, and to all of our centres who received nominations.
