‘Don’t Smell My Shoes Micheldever!’

Last week Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services - Team Protyre were visited by incredibly named Mongol Rally Team - Don’t Smell My Shoes!

The team consisting of Danny, Oli and Adam were in for a last-minute tyre change on their kitted-out Nissan Micra before heading to Ulan-Ude in Russia 10,000 miles away to embark on their epic quest across the country. In local team spirit, Centre Manager Damion Gore decided to help the team out by offering up great value, adventure quality tyres and some goodies for the trip as sponsorship.

What is the Mongol Rally?

The Mongol Rally is a driving adventure that starts in London and ends in Ulan-Ude Russia, passing through Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. The journey must be undertaken in a small, underpowered and quite frankly unfit vehicle for the journey. There is no support or set routes and teams are completely on their own; utterly dependant on their own wits to see them through. The event itself is overseen by a organisation that manages the teams, plans the start/end parties and cleans up after the less scrupulous teams.

Why are they doing this?

The team have tasked themselves with raising £1,000 in charitable donations, £500 to go to the Mongol Rally’s designated charity Cool Earth and the rest to Macmillan Cancer Support and The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.

Cool Earth are dedicated to Rainforest Conservation and do this by placing power in the hands of the people who live there. Macmillan Cancer Support offer a much needed helping hand to those who have been diagnosed with Cancer, and their families. The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust educates young people on the importance of staying mentally well and how to do so, as well as train teachers, doctors, employers and university staff to recognise when someone might be in trouble and offer vital first-line support.

"It’s the journey of a lifetime. A massive thanks to our last-minute sponsors at Micheldever tyres for changing our wheels and the goodies. Bang up job gents!"
