Reigning Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship class B10 champion Rhidian Daniels will contest next year’s series in a brand new and self-built Ford Escort Mk2

Having sold his class winning Citroën C1 Max, Rhidian had planned to skip the first half of the 2020 season and re-join the series around now in the newly created Ford Escort Challenge category.

As it turns out, the west Wales driver had unexpectedly picked the perfect year to take time out to build a new car, and together with co-driver Tomas Whittle will return to the Asphalt Championship having not missed a single round!

“What with Covid-19 hitting us and then me having to throw myself into the development of my business, the build of my car has been on the back burner for the beginning of this year,” says Rhidian.

“Over the past month or so we've had a huge push forward with the fabrication of the Escort, and now all of the parts are purchased and ready for fitting.

“It is definitely nice to have the excitement back of building a car again and hopefully in the next couple of weeks we'll be well into the dry build process.

“I do have to give a huge thanks to Owen [Llwyd Edwards] of Olle Precision Engineering, Gareth [Lloyd] from West Wales Rally Spares, Simon [Rogers] of Meteor Motorsport for our new Penske suspension, Thomas [Healy] of Henso Solutions in Ireland and Max [Mosam] at Bremax Electronics, all of whom have been very helpful in the development of the new project.

“Having this year out due to Covid-19 has been unexpectedly beneficial with the rebuild, so for that I must be grateful!”
