Protyre - Story - Jamie's Story

Today, we chat to Jamie, one of our Retail Centre Managers.

Jamie is one of the first people in the business to undertake the Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship, along with four other Centre Managers who are all part of the Rising Stars programme.

Jamie joined us for a virtual chat from his Centre in Portsmouth.

So, Jamie, tell us why you were interested in this apprenticeship?

Everything in the apprenticeship is about leading and managing, which is pretty much my job.

That’s why I wanted to do it, because I know it will help me do my job better, and it’s a level 3 qualification, which will stay with me for the rest of my career and help me into an area role.

And… it’s a free qualification, so why wouldn’t you!

When were you last in education?

When I left school, I did an apprenticeship in vehicle mechanics, that was around 10 years ago.

Having done an apprenticeship before, I knew there was a lot of work involved and I would need to dedicate time to it, but I am ready to do it all again now.

And what about your career so far?

I started in the workshop with Protyre and never really liked staying in one position for too long.

I always wanted to do more, so I got my MOT license and then went to work for a main dealer.

I came back to Protyre as Assistant Manager and did that for a year or so before being made Centre Manager, which I’ve done for nearly 3 years.

I just want to keep going and keep testing myself.

When do you properly get started with the programme?

I have done my enrolment and logged onto the learning portal to see what it’s all about. It takes 12 months to complete, so I will let you know how it’s going!

A huge thank you to Jamie for making the time to talk to us. We wish him all the very best with his studies and look forward to catching up later in the year to get his feedback on the programme.
