Today, Dunlop Tyres in Asia, Africa and Latin America is owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industries. In 1999, Sumitomo Rubber Industries and Goodyear began a joint venture whereby Sumitomo Rubber Industries continued to manufacture all Japanese-made tyres under the Dunlop brand, whilst Goodyear bought 75% of the European and North American market from Sumitomo.
With Dunlop continuing to have such success in the market, Sumitomo invested $131 million for the upgrade and expansion of its Dunlop tyre manufacturing site in Ladysmith, South Africa.
