Street party for happy residents

Residents of Windermere Road, Blackpool, enjoyed a party to remember after winning a competition to find Lancashire’s ‘Happy Street’, which included raising money for Cash for Kids, in a campaign backed by local tyre specialist and mechanical centre, Protyre.

The party took place at Watson Road Park and included a hog roast, music, performances from UK Street Monkeys and My Stage Company, a bouncy castle, as well as fun family activities, such as archery.

Residents of Windermere Road raised £2,208 for Cash for Kids from a range of activities, including a car wash at their local Protyre centre, as well as turning one of the resident’s garage into a pub for an evening.

Their fundraising efforts, combined with the other finalists from Freckleton, Preston, and Fleetwood, meant that more than £7,500 was generated for Cash for Kids.

Laura Horne, one of the residents of Windermere Road, said: “We had such a great time. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves, which is not surprising since we are Lancashire’s happiest street. We’re also really proud of the money raised for Cash for Kids. It does amazing work to support underprivileged children across Lancashire.”

Protyre has five centres in Lancashire - Bolton, Leyland, Poulton, Preston and Southport. Protyre’s Jamie Cole said: “It was a fantastic party with some very happy people. As an established local business we love to support local initiatives. It’s been a great campaign and a lot of fun, and most importantly, raised much needed funds to support underprivileged children across Lancashire.”

Cash for Kids is a network of local charities, set up by Bauer Radio. Operating across 21 areas in the UK, the each charity raises money from within its local communities to support disabled and disadvantaged children aged from 0 to 18 years. This includes grants from buying specialist equipment for children to enhance their quality of life, or donations to local charities and organisations to help them undertake projects and new initiatives.
