Windermere Road, Blackpool, has been named Lancashire’s ‘Happy Street’ after winning a countywide competition while raising money for Cash for Kids in a campaign backed by Protyre.

Laura and the team from Windermere Road raised £2208 from a range of activities, including a car wash at their local Protyre and turning Laura’s own garage into a pub for an evening.

Laura’s fundraising efforts, combined with the four other finalists means more than £7500 was generated via the Happy Street in support of Cash for Kids, a charity that supports local disabled and disadvantaged children.

Windermere Road will be even happier at the end of the month when residents will be rewarded with the Happy Street Party on Sunday 21st August, which will see a host of entertainment take place including music, dancers, kids entertainment, a bouncy castle, archery and a BBQ.

Jamie Cole, Area Manager for Lancashire said: “We’re always looking to support local initiatives and when we heard about this opportunity we knew it was something we wanted to get involved with. It’s been a great campaign and a lot of fun, and most importantly, raised much needed funds to support underprivileged children across Lancashire.”

The four other Lancashire streets to compete against Windermere Road were Shackleton Road, Freckleton; The Boulevard and Larch Grove, in Preston; and Seacrest Avenue, in Fleetwood.

Cash for Kids is a network of local charities, set up by Bauer Radio. Operating across 21 areas in the UK, the each charity raises money from within its local communities to support disabled and disadvantaged children aged from 0 to 18 years. This includes grants from buying specialist equipment for children to enhance their quality of life, or donations to local charities and organisations to help them undertake projects and new initiatives.
