Motorcycle Tyres for Honda CB1000 Motorcycle

Honda are inventive when it comes to bikes, less so when it comes to their names. At least three different bikes have been called the CB1000; a sport-tourer dating from 1983 (sometimes called the CB1000C), the “super four” or “big one” produced between 1992 and 1996, and most recently the CB1000R naked superbike released in successive versions from 2008 to the present.

In design terms, they have almost nothing in common except their huge inline engines - and all the handling implications that implies. They are all impressive cruisers, best suited for those long hauls into the desert sunset (or ploughing through British weather in reality).

The 1992-96 “big one”, as the name implies, is physically the largest, weighing in at around 260 kg (573 lbs) with a full tank. This is probably the model most often suggested by the CB1000 tag. While its appearance (despite its size) is somewhat conventional by modern standards, the ride is widely regarded as superlative, with a riding position that stays comfortable mile after mile (not always something you could take for granted on a Honda). The handling is also much praised, with confident cornering and manoeuvring at both low and high speeds.

Mechanically it owes a lot to the CBR1000F but with a slightly down-tuned engine so that it produces a sensible 98 HP at 8500 rpm. This engine is a 998cc liquid cooled four-cylinder four stroke engine with a 77x54 mm bore. When choosing Honda CB 1000 tyres, bear in mind that this is a very heavy motorcycle and with two passengers and luggage, you will want something substantial, especially at the rear end.

Honda CB 1000 tyres are usually a 120/70-18 59V in the front, with a 170/60-18 73V behind (but always check your manual and existing tyre walls). With a top speed of about 140 mph, your tyres must be speed rated V at a minimum.
