Harley Davidson

About Harley-Davidson

These iconic motorcycles need little introduction. One of only two motorcycle brands to survive the Great Depression, they have since found fame not only on the roads, but also on the silver screen. Marlon Brando, Clark Gable, James Dean, Elvis Presley, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Elizabeth Taylor, Evel Knievel and Brigitte Bardot are just some of the celebrities associated with these bikes.

Harley and Davidson built their first factory in 1906. In 1907, it produced 150 motorcycles. This increased to 450 in 1908 and then to 1,149 in 1909. By the outbreak of World War One, the factory was producing over 16,000 machines per year. It had also started to dominate motorcycle racing. This upward trajectory continued throughout the war and, by 1920, Harley-Davidson was the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer.
